Point4 Dance
A history and introduction by Sally-Ann Sally-Ann came
up with the name Point4 Dance whilst sitting in a hostel in the Cook
Islands with travelling buddy Natalie. Having always loved the number 4,
it simply had to be in the title and somehow, Point4 seemed to roll off
the tongue. Both ‘to the point’ and with the obvious idea of ‘Pointing
your toes/fingers’ etc, it seemed to work!
The Point4 logo was drafted on the back of an
envelope by a friends ex-boyfriend, studying art in London and feeling
the need to ‘create’, James went on to design the original Point4 Dance
logo. It has since been tidied up for design purposes but still holds very
sentimental value! The one question Sally-Ann is always asked is why the
company is called Point4 dance and have a 5 point star? ….her answer is?!...
Just because!
What we do Point4 Dance offers purely Modern Dance and Drama,
Singing and Dance Workshops in School Holidays. Sally-Ann has been
teaching classes since 2006 under her Mum’s (Robin) ‘umbrella’ and
continues to do so as well as teaching the Let’s Dance pupils.
Emma
is the newest member of the teaching staff under the Point4 Dance
‘Umbrella’ and joined the School in 2009 whilst Sally-Ann was on
Maternity Leave. Emma now offers Adult Ballet and Contemporary Dance
Classes on Wednesday Mornings and is currently involved in Haywards Heath
Operatic Society, choreographing for their latest show. Emma and her
sisters, Hannah and Kim, danced with Robin since they were very young and
her parents were hugely involved in the back stage running of the School
for many years. Now, one of Emma’s daughters dances with Sally-Ann as does
her niece. Keeping it all in the family!
Point4 offers Modern Dance classes to both children and adults.
Modern dance gives the pupil a chance to move in a less structured fashion
than ballet but still with much control and discipline.
Sally-Ann often
mixes up her classes and is known to explore other styles including
Bollywood, Jazz, Hip Hop and Cheer to name a few.
The warm up for
the adults is often fairly aerobic making dance both fun with the benefit
of keeping in shape if the pupil should wish!
Younger pupils are
encouraged to take exams under the Association of American Dance but are
by no means obliged to.
